On the occasion of Kate Petley’s current solo exhibition at Robischon Gallery, we are sharing three articles written about her work:

A just published review of the exhibition, an Artsy editorial from 2014, and an interview with the artist on the Vasari21 blog. Kate Petley has worked at Manneken Press, creating several monoprint series in 2013 and 2016 which can be viewed here.

Recent news: Kate Petley’s work was included in “Colorado Women in Abstraction” at the Metropolitan State University Center for Visual Art, Denver CO, curated by Michael Paglia; she was an artist in residence at the UCROSS Foundation in Clearmont, WY; and completed an invitational residency at Franz Mayer of Munich Glass Studio.

We just finished a new monotype project with Carlos Andrade.

A new series of mixed-media monotypes by Carlos Andrade.

Artist Carlos Andrade arrived at Manneken Press from his home in Cali, Colombia, just a few days after our return from the E/AB Fair. I have worked with Carlos at Manneken Press on several different monotype projects since 2009, and we were printing together as early as 1996 in my studio in New York. Carlos has always been interested in using vernacular materials in his paintings sculptures and installations, and we have previously incorporated materials such as color-xerox copies, printed religious ephemera, and synthetic meshes and fabrics into his prints. This time he arrived at Manneken Press with a bagful of festones, the colorful plastic triangular flags which are strung up in strands for street festivals in Central and South America, wanting to use them in his prints. He had flags in an array of transparent colors, which when overlapped, created interesting new colors.

After spending a day adhering the festones, with their strings still attached, to paper we had about 12 sheets to work with, ranging in size from 30″ x 22″ to 60″ x 44″. We spent the rest of the week printing and creating a new series of wonderfully textured, unusual and very typically “Andrade” monotypes.  Once the prints are dry and have been documented we will add them to the website.

The 2016 Editions/Artist’s Books Fair has concluded.

After a whirlwind Print Week in New York City we are now back home and following up with the many interested collectors, curators, art consultants and gallerists who stopped in at our booth at the E/AB Fair. The fair included more than forty exhibitors from across the USA and from as far away as South Africa, showing contemporary prints, portfolios, artist’s books and unique paper works. Attendance at the fair was good, including over 1000 visitors at Thursday night’s VIP opening. We were pleased to be able to present all new work in our booth, created at Manneken Press over the past year by seven different artists.

New monoprints by Kate Petley are now available

By | Kate Petley, Monotypes, New release | No Comments

The latest releases from Manneken Press are two groups of monoprints by Colorado artist Kate Petley. Petley created these related yet unique works during her visit to Manneken Press this past spring. Though she had prepared to work on several different images, we were only able to complete two. Fifteen new prints titled Upside and Sideways are now available, and Kate will be returning to Manneken Press in the coming months to continue working on the additional images.

Jack Davidson at Manneken Press

By | Jack Davidson, Monotypes, New project | No Comments

Jack Davidson spent a week working at Manneken Press in April 2016. His unique approach to making monotypes included the use of Rorschach blots and gold leaf. Images of his prints will be added to the website shortly.

Jack is a native of Aberdeen, Scotland. He is a painter, currently living and working in Barcelona, and has had recent exhibitions in New York and Los Angeles, as well as in Europe.
