Just Above Midtown: Changing Spaces | MOMA

Manneken Press was pleased to loan two prints by Peter Feldstein to The Museum of Modern Art for their exhibition Just Above Midtown: Changing Spaces, October 9 2022 – February 18 2023. The exhibition focused on Just Above Midtown, a New York City art gallery and self-described laboratory led by Linda Goode Bryant that foregrounded African American artists and artists of color. Open from 1974 until 1986, it was a place where Black art flourished and debate was cultivated. Feldstein’s work in abstract photography meshed with the gallery’s mission of highlighting artists working in abstraction and inexpensive materials and he participated in several of the gallery’s group exhibitions. Both of Feldstein’s prints are photogravures derived from small handmade negatives. Manneken Press’ Jonathan Higgins worked with Feldstein on these prints in 1998, produced at and published by at Galamander Press, NYC, a forerunner of Manneken Press.
