Jill Moser: Chroma Six" aquatint suite

Manneken Press is currently featuring Chroma Six, our 2019 project with Jill Moser, on our Artsy site.

A s the collective title Chroma Six suggests, color is of prime importance for the artist. In the six color aquatints that comprise the suite, the dialogue taking place between figure and ground the gestural, almost animated figures are both expressive and descriptive, while the grounds are imbued with deep dimensional space that rival that of the overlaid figures.

Jill Moser’s broader practice centers on a dialogue between painting and printmaking: working in print allows Moser to introduce a mechanical process that mediates between hand and image, thereby allowing her to slow down and re-encounter her own gestures.

Exhibited this year at Expo Chicago and the Editions/Artists’ Books Fair in New York, Chroma Six consists of six color aquatints by Jill Moser, published by Manneken Press. Work on the plates began in February 2019 at the artist’s Long Island City studio, and color proofing was completed in May 2019 at Manneken Press. The prints are available now exclusively from Manneken Press.

The individual titles of the prints are Benibana, Tyre, Verdigris, Cinnabar, Gamboge and Violets. The image size is 17 x 14 inches, printed on 23 1/2 x 21 inch Arnhem paper in editions of 20.
