Cathie Crawford: "Luna Sea", 2018. Color reduction woodcut, 24" x 36", edition of 7.

Color woodcuts by Cathie Crawford are now available from Manneken Press

Cathie Crawford’s poetic prints are marked by bright colors in strong horizontal bands. Her imagery hovers on the edges of abstraction with associations of landscape, water and other suggestions of the natural world.

Cathie Crawford’s prints exude a strong materiality. Evidence of her images’ origins in wood is visible in the grain of the matrix transferred in ink to the paper. Crawford chooses sumptuous, handmade Japanese papers made of kozo and gampi fibers. The irregularities, fiber inclusions and deckles give these papers  personalities of their own. In contrast to the delicacy of the paper, Crawford often uses a heavy ink application which imparts textures and glossy surfaces to the finished prints.

All of Cathie Crawford’s woodcuts can be viewed here on the Manneken Press website. Additionally, we are featuring the prints in an online exhibition on Artsy July 1 – August 15 2020. The prints range in price from $1200 to $2400 and a price/info list is available on request.
